Sustainable Agriculture, Sustainable Environment
Most of IDS’s agricultural and environmental projects target small independent farmers from small local and rural villages. The projects vary in focus, often helping farmers improve income generation from crop growth using innovative agricultural methods. IDS supported SRUTI in Assam to support innovative cultivation in flood prone areas.

"I am delighted to inform you that HEF has completed the installation of the solar hot water heater at the Himalaya Public School in Chaukori (in Kumaon) on schedule and on budget. The heater is now operational and 120 kids are now enjoying hot water baths. The school administrators say that watching the kids enjoy the hot water puts a smile on their faces! And now they can save 2 trees a month by not having to cut them down for firewood in an area that is already getting deforested at a rapid rate.
I thank IDS from the bottom of my heart for trusting in us and providing the grant that made this possible. I would encourage you all to visit the school on your next visit to India and see the benefits that your generosity has brought. I am enclosing one picture (see to the right).
